About Us

Our Identity and Biblical Mission

We as a church are united in a holy covenant and empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey the great commandments and the great commission to God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, to love our neighbor as ourselves, and to go into the world making disciples.

Vision For This Mission

To create and maintain a worship service committed to prayer, preaching, the study of the Word, the celebration of the sacraments, and fellowship across gender, race, age, culture and class.

To equip loving, giving, growing Christians to reach out with the Good News of Jesus Christ, evangelizing the lost, ministering to those in need, and seeking justice for the oppressed.

Strategic Goal Areas

To build and maintain a church committed to this common mission - spiritual and numerical growth.

To deepen the spiritual vitality and increase the membership with those hungry for true Christian fellowship.

To help people use their personal gifts by giving them opportunities for service.

Her‚Äče's what some of our members say about us:

Nancy's Story:

"My husband and I moved to East Texas and built our dream home. Then, unexpectedly my husband passed away. I was felt so alone and abandoned. One day I attended a bake-sale held by a local non-profit and met two very nice ladies. When they heard about my recent loss, they invited me to their churches' grief support program. I immediately felt welcomed and loved when I joined the group. It wasn't long before I began attending the church services and I received the same warm welcome there! Soon I became a member of HUMC, was baptized and I've never looked back. Harleton United Methodist has become my church family and I'm so glad I took that first step."

Jean's Story:

"My family was in turmoil and I needed a place to go to feel calm and get some perspective on life. I had heard about a lovely little rural church in Harleton, and knew a few of the members. When I was invited to a Sunday service I took the chance of going and I'm so happy that I did! I found a peaceful place with people who just accept each other and don't take themselves too seriously. We have fun, even laugh at church! I always hear something in the message that speaks to my heart and I've been able to put my chaotic life back on an even keel. I'm thankful for this group of caring people and happy to be able to participate in the many things they do for others."
